June 18th & 19th 2011 Justice For All Mississippi Civil Rights Martyrs!

Compared to the number of murders committed in Mississippi and the number of murderers involved, investigations and prosecutions have been a token few.

You are invited to attend the 47th Annual Mississippi Civil Rights Martyrs Memorial Service and Conference at the Old Longdale Community Center. We shall remember and honor James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, Michael Schwerner and all Mississippi Civil Rights Martyrs.

The Memorial Service and Conference will be preceded by a Caravan that will assemble at 610 38th Avenue at the First Union Missionary Baptist Church in Meridian, Mississippi, at 8:30a.m. on June 18, 2011. The Caravan will depart at 9:00a.m. and will pass by the former COFO office on 5th Street and 25th Avenue, on the way to the Lauderdale County Courthouse for a Rally. The Caravan will depart the Lauderdale County Courthouse on its way to Okatibbee Mississionary Baptist Church for a service at the grave of James Chaney. Then the Caravan will proceed to the murder site of Chaney, Goodman and Schwerner at Neshoba County Road #555 for a short service. We then depart for the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, 257 Carver Avenue, for refreshments. Next, the Caravan will line up at the old Neshoba County Jail where Chaney, Goodman and Schwerner were detained on June 21, 1964– until their murders could be arranged. Next, a one-block March for Justice from the jail to the steps of the Neshoba County Courthouse for a Rally to call for Justice in the cases of all Mississippi Civil Rights Martyrs! The Caravan For Justice will proceed to the Old Longdale Community Center site which was fire bombed because of its being a meeting place for people of color-African-Americans and Native Americans.

This will be an event for remembering, exchanging thoughts and ideas and for strategizing to continue the struggle against oppression of people of color in Mississippi.

The Memorial Service and Conference location can be reached from Philadelphia Mississippi by going 2 miles on HWY 16 East. Turn left on County Road 482 and go 7 miles. Turn right on to County Road 632 and go a half mile. The Old Longdale Community Center will be on your right.
