The Cold Case Justice Initiative is deeply disappointed in the decision by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals to vacate the conviction of James Ford Seale, the acknowledged killer of Charles Moore and Henry Hezekiah Dee, on the slimmest basis of statute of limitations. We are heartened to know that the other six grounds of James Ford Seale's appeal, which would have addressed the matter of his actual guilt, were undisturbed by the Court. In this regard, James Ford Seale remains unquestionably guilty of the horrific racist killings of Charles Moore and Henry Dee, both 19 years old at when they were killed in 1964. Because the statute of limitations determination raises questionable interpretations of law, we urge the federal and local law enforcement agencies to continue to pursue this case. Further, the Cold Case Justice Initiative remains committed to our work on behalf of family members of the victims of similar acts of racist violence during the Civil Rights Era. In the words of Thomas Moore, the brother of Charles Moore, "We must keep the faith." And we will.
